Top 8 places to watch a sunset on Cape Cod

Cape Cod Sunset

Sunsets on Cape Cod

Sunsets are breathtaking year round on Cape Cod! The most magical colors cascade over our bay creating the perfect place for romance, soul searching and serenity. In thinking back and looking at the 100’s of sunset pictures Byron has taken over the years, I am amazed at the different events that have occurred. We have had proposals, anniversary celebrations, elopements, weddings and joyful walks enjoying our beautiful sunsets on Cape Cod.

As the seasons come and go, we like to recommend different locations for you to catch your Cape Cod sunset. During the summer months all of our Brewster beaches make for perfect viewing as the sun sets in the middle of the bay. During the winter months the sun is more toward land, and we recommend you travel more north to P’Town, Orleans or Wellfleet to catch that perfect angle of the sun setting.

Our Top 8 Places to watch a sunset on Cape Cod

Sunset at Breakwater beach

1. Breakwater Beach, Brewster

Breakwater beach is just a short stroll from the inn and makes for perfect summer sunsets. Every sunset is different depending on the humidity, temperature, tides, cloud cover and calendar. Many times when we are on the beach everyone applauds as the sun sets for the evening.

2. Paine’s Creek, Brewster

The picture above is of our daughter April and her husband Matt. When they come in the summer we have a tradition of one evening during their stay watching the sunset at Paine’s Creek and then having fried clams and ice cream afterwards at Kate’s. Paine’s Creek is an interesting beach as the creek feeds into the bay with plenty of extra rocks to sit and watch the sunset.

Sunset at Paine’s Creek

Byron has captured so many beautiful pictures at this beach and our grandkids love to swim here during their summer visit.

Para- Sailing off First Encounter Beach

3. First Encounter Beach, Eastham

Site of the First Encounter between Native Americans and the Pilgrims prior to their settling in Plymouth. Because of it’s central location in Eastham, First Encounter usually has  a panoramic view of Cape Cod Bay. This picture was taken during high tide to allow this picture perfect view of our sunsets via para sailing.

Harrison on Cape Cod bay

4. Ellis Landing, Brewster

Our friends have a beautiful beach home on Ellis Landing. Harrison is not allowed on the beach in the summer months, but every so often we take him to our friend’s home and allow him a sunset swim.

Crosby Landing Beach

5. Crosby Landing Beach- Brewster

Crosby beach is a favorite choice for our Cape Cod Elopement couples and Byron has captured so many beautiful moments on this beach. While there don’t miss out on walking around the Crosby Mansion. Check out a previous blog for details on this interesting mansion in Brewster.

Sunset from Herring Cove in the winter months

6. Herring Cove, P’Town

During the winter months it’s always fun to head up to P’town and park at Herring Cove to watch a winter sunset. It also might be a perfect opportunity later for star gazing. While P’Town is rather desolate in the winter time many of our favorite restaurants stay open year round.

Rock Harbor Sunset

7. Rock Harbor, Orleans

We visit Rock Harbor several times in the year and love the sunsets during the quiet season. The picture above was taken last year on October and the views that evening were magnificent!

Great Island sunset

8. Great Island, Wellfleet

Every once in a while you witness a sunset on Cape Cod that cascades brilliant orange and yellow hues across the bay. We loved this picture so much that we used it for our Captain Freeman Inn brochure. Great Island is a wonderful place to visit year round, any time of the day. The trails leads you one way to see Cape Cod Bay and the other side of the island gives you forest and views of Wellfleet Harbor.

The Best place to stay on Cape Cod

We feel our central location in Brewster is the absolute best location to see many different types of sunsets during your holiday on Cape Cod. Many of our guests take leisurely strolls down to Breakwater beach each evening to witness the sunset.

The other night we were taking a beach walk with Harrison on Breakwater Beach and were delighted to see our guests celebrating an anniversary while watching the sunset. Harrison was pleased to join in on all the activities.
