I have very fond memories of a fresh water swimming spot my family use to frequent. I grew up in a very small town in western Massachusetts called South Egremont. The Green River is a stream that runs through my home town, and I use to ride my bike with my girlfriend for an afternoon swim on many hot days. My mother also started a tradition of bringing the grand kids down to the river for a picnic. It’s these memories that we still talk about today.
When Byron and I moved to Cape Cod many years ago, we were thrilled to find many fresh water kettle ponds close by that reminded me of the same experience I grew up with. We started a tradition of bringing our four legged members for a lake swim every time we went to the recycle center. Shown below are some of our favorites:

- Upper Mill Pond I mention this one first as we frequent this lake often and this bench is one of my favorite meditating spots on the planet. It’s calm, quiet with nice lake breeze and serene views. Just below this spot is where we go swimming. Harrison usually joins us!

There is something so refreshing and exhilarating to swim in a fresh water lake!
2. Nickerson State Park in Brewster offers 1900 acres of pristine forest and lakes including hiking trails, an eight mile bike path that connects to the 22 mile Cape Cod Rail Trail , and ponds stocked year-round with trout. One can swim and canoe at Flax Pond, walk around the bike trails and lakes and birdwatch or catch-and-release fish at Higgins Pond.

ahhhhhh, what better way to pass a few hours on vacation then on a raft in the middle of a pristine lake.
3. Sheep Pond in Brewster- This lovely pond has a public landing off of Route 124 in Brewster, and it is great for swimming and fishing. Kayakers and canoeists can explore the great pond, and there are small landings along the way that are great for taking a quick dip. We love to recommend that you follow the bike path and stop for a refreshing swim during your travels.

4. Scargo Lake– This swimming spot is absolutely beautiful. Princess Beach is the primary swimming area and is located off of Scargo Hill Road. This shot was taken in the fall and the lighting cascading off of the water was breathtaking.

5. Flax Pond in Dennis This pond has a parking area located off of Setucket Road in Dennis, right before the Yarmouth line. We love this pond as it is dog friendly and is just a short 5 minute walk A perfect place to go for an evening walk and cool off with a dip in the lake.

6. Long Pond – Located 123 Indian Memorial Drive in South Yarmouth, is the Long Pond Recreation area. There is a wonderful beach, a basketball court, and a wooded area.

Cape Cod has many kettle ponds and I mentioned 6 of our favorite that are close to our Cape Cod Bed and Breakfast, the Captain Freeman Inn.

We have a beautiful salt water swimming pool at the Captain Freeman Inn that our guests enjoy after their days adventure.

Consider a trip to beautiful Cape Cod and stay at our boutique inn, the Captain Freeman Inn.
