Memorial Weekend at the Captain Freeman Inn

New red rockers with turtle pillows

Happy Memorial Day everyone- well, we finally made it through our cold winter and rainy spring and have sunshine and warmth on Cape Cod.

We have been so tickled with all of our winter and spring projects as everything has come together these past few weeks. The Freeman is shining, and we could not be more delighted to share all of our new updates and gardens with our guests this summer.

Shown below are some of our changes. The pictures are not the professional quality that Byron usually takes but I thought it would be fun to walk around and snap pictures on my phone of what makes me smile these days.

God bless America and thank you to all of our service men and woman- both past and present!

Flowers on the front steps

Everyone that knows me knows that I absolutely adore fresh flowers and planted flowers and vegetables. Last year we invested in a irrigation well at the inn, and we are very spoiled now as we don’t have to water all of our gardens and containers. This beauty shown above graces our front steps and is filled with geraniums, petunias and sweet potato vine. I was weeding the front bed when the irrigation guys came to add water lines to our new containers and gardens, and they were joking with me saying that I was a “lady of leisure” since I don’t have to water daily- LOL- while yes, this new system really helps, the weeds keep growing and the cookies still need baking. No complaints from this gal as I love what I do and am thankful to have our plants watered regularly with little manpower.

Porch flowers

So tickled with this little corner of the front porch. Last year I purchased a lovely summer fern. It was very happy on the front porch and I decided to try to save it in a window in our basement over the winter months. Happy to report it’s healthy and happy and back in it’s summer home. The wooden house was made by my cousin’s husband and is a butterfly house. Let’s see if we attract any this summer.

New resting spot on the front porch

We created a new area to relax on the front porch with this table and chair set- perfect for that first cup of coffee in the morning while reading the morning paper.

New fountain

Byron found this beautiful old fountain in an antique shop. We decided that the perfect place was in our front garden to greet our guests when they arrive. Off to the left is our new clematis garden that we planted last year. It seems to like it’s new home and is full of buds.

We moved the wicker set to the side and I love sitting there in the early evening- it is so peaceful and relaxing. We cleared away two overgrown bushes and replaced them with a weeping cherry and red leaf maple.

New side planterWe found a pair of these antique planters last summer and have placed them on our side garden- keeping to this year’s theme of petunias, geraniums and sweet potato vines:)

New rose garden

Loving our new rose garden in the back yard.

Shade garden at the inn

We finished the shade garden that graces the back of the building with the original bricks as the back drop.

We are calling this new garden our “Secret Garden” as it winds down to the side of our back yard. We have planted mountain laurel and azaleas along the way. The morning and afternoon light is magical in this garden.

Vegetable and herb garden

Continue to love my new vegetable garden. Byron gave me a beautiful fountain which is a wonderful way to relax while working in the garden. We are getting the ground fertile and pleased to see how fast the new seeds are emerging.

Pool area

We moved our statue ladies to the pool area and they just seem to be happier there:) I planted tons of annuals in the gardens around the pool- can’t wait to see all of the color in this area over the summer. The pool is open and is now salt water and solar heated.

Siberian Iris

The Siberian Iris have been especially beautiful this year. Always appreciate their stunning color.

Male bluebird in our back feeder

Last but not least we still have our blue birds in the back yard. They are such a beautiful bird, and we have had many guests sitting in the back yard watching these beauties. We have so many beautiful birds on Cape Cod. Check out a previous blog about all the good spots to see our beautiful birdlife.

Our rooms are filling up quickly for summer. Consider a stay with us and enjoy our beautiful gardens, updated rooms and serene pool. After all- we all deserve a little time to relax and Cape Cod is a perfect backdrop to rest and rejuvenate.

Our spa girls are also available for in room massages and facials. We use all organic products and our therapists are both experienced and caring. Let us know if you would like to add a service to your stay.

Happy Memorial Day weekend from all of us at the Captain Freeman Inn.
