Your Expert Guide for the Best Things to do in Brewster, Ma in Springtime

We are on our annual March holiday visiting family. We have had a great time visiting a friend in Asheville, N.C. (and scouting out retirement areas)

Gail and Donna at the Biltmore

and visiting with our grandsons, Trenton and Josh in Tuscalousa.

Having fun on the water

Every day Byron and I talk about our gardens at the Captain Freeman. We just love spring on Cape Cod- and Brewster in particular! Last fall we planted many new plants and bulbs and are anxious to see them bloom next month.

Spring flowers at the inn

Springtime really is a special time to visit Cape Cod. All of the clam shacks are beginning to open, the weather is warming- making for perfect beach walking weather, the crowds are not here yet and our rates are quiet season low:)

Listed below are some of our favorite activities to enjoy during your stay  at the Captain Freeman Inn, in the beautiful coastal town of Brewster, Ma.

  • Brewster in Bloom has to be our favorie springtime event! It is old time Americana at it’s finest! This year the event falls on May 4, 5th and 6th. What a perfect opportunity to see all of the daffodils that flank our Old Historic Highway- 6A and to enjoy many open house events and concerts. This year’s parade theme is Clamoring for Clams.

The weekend also includes the 7th Annual Arts and Antiques Excursion which runs all weekend. The excursion is a self guided tour of Brewster’s many antique and art galleries.

Our treasured Brewster Band will kick off the festival on Friday night at the Brewster Baptist church at 7pm. Check out the Brewster Chamber web site for event details.

Herring run in Brewster
  • Many of our guests try to time their visit with the annual herring run trek of the alewives. It’s quite a site and while we cannot give you the exact date- they start migrating when the bay waters reach a certain temperature- we will post on Facebook & Instagram just as soon as the word is out in town. Check out a previous blog for more information on the herring.
    Lobster Roll
  • Have a lobster roll at Cafe Alfresco. We always love when the lobster rolls come back on the menu- YUM!
Nickerson State Park
  • Take a walk around one of the beautiful kettle ponds in Nickerson State park, which is just up the street from the inn. Byron and I are always looking for great places to hike and when we are away from Brewster, we realize what a treasure Nickerson State Park is!
Windmill in Brewster
  • Everyone loves the sight of a windmill and Brewster is blessed to have a lovely historical park for all to enjoy. Looking forward to when the Brewster Historical Society starts their Sunday Farmer’s Market in Drummer Boy Park.
  • Last but not least- remember to stop in our favorite store in Brewster- the Brewster General Store, which is just a few steps from the inn.

While I know many of us still have snow on the ground- it’s not far away when you can enjoy warm weather, fresh vegetables from the garden and blooming flowers.
