Byron always teases me that as soon as the weather gets cooler I go into my ‘Nesting Thing”. I must admit he is totally right because the past few days have been cooler and my mind has been thinking about fall cleaning, redecorating, fall recipes, out side decorating with pumpkins and our wonderful witches legs AND our quiet season packages.
This summer, our Baby Moon and Honeymoon packages have been very popular with many lovebirds at the inn. For the later part of our season, we are adding a New Year’s Eve Package along with bringing back our most requested Dinner Package.

Our 2 night Dinner Package includes breakfast each morning, afternoon tea, chocolate covered strawberries with Prosecco for your arrival, a bouquet of flowers and dinner for two at one of our favorite restaurants close by (we provide you with a $100 gift certificate for dinner)
Freeman Buttermilk PancakesWe are adding a new twist this year to also include a night cap of sherry or port, expresso or cappuccino or our favorite- a cup of French Hot Chocolate.
For those that have never had a cup of French Hot Chocolate- let me just say you are in for a real treat. Its a cup of decadent, smooth, thick, rich, chocolaty heaven! Return to the inn after your dinner and take a cup of French Hot Chocolate back to your room and enjoy it in front of your fireplace.
French Hot ChocolateHere’s the recipe for you to make this delight at home.
- 1½ cups whole milk
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons powdered sugar
- ½ teaspoon expresso powder
- 8 ounces bittersweet chocolate, (at least 70%), chopped
- Giant bowl of Whipped Cream- the real thing-homemade
- In a medium sauce pan over medium heat, whisk together the whole milk, heavy cream, powdered sugar, and the expresso powder until small bubble appear around the edges. Do not allow the mixture to bowl.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the chopped chocolate until melted, returning the saucepan to low heat, if needed, for the chocolate to melt completely. Serve warm topped with whip cream.
- If you are making this for a special occasion, you can hold the hot chocolate in a crock pot until ready to use. If you have some left over you can store them in mason jars in the frig and then reheat in the microwave or in a sauce pan over gentle heat.

Scallop dish at VersVers-http://www.verscapecod.com/restaurant/ Dutch owner, great attention to detail with the freshest of fresh food available. Located in Orleans- about a 10 minute drive from the inn. (reservations suggested)
Buca’s Tuscan Roadhouse- http://www.bucasroadhouse.com/ Our favorite restaurant for a special occasion- very romantic and delicious food. Located in Harwichport- about a 20 minute drive form the inn (reservations suggested)
Red Pheasant- http://www.redpheasantinn.com American dining with an emphasis on game. Beautiful roaring fire in the winter. Located in Dennis- about a 15 minute drive from the inn. (reservations suggested)
Mahoneys- http://mahoneysatlantic.com/menus/dinner/ Upscale pub with a great, broad menu that is always popular. We love their tuna sashimi and salads. Located in Orleans- about a 10 minute drive from the inn. (no reservations)
