Winter projects at the Captain Freeman Inn

Winter is a special time on Cape Cod. This year has been challenging with all of the snow and storms, but we have not let that stop us with our renovations at the Captain Freeman Inn. We are in the process of getting professional pictures for the web site of the changes, but I thought I would give our readers a glimpse of the before and after changes with my phone camera.

Orleans is a stunning room on the first floor. I have never liked wall paper or baby blue colors. When we purchased the inn 5 years ago this room had exactly that!  The wall paper was in really good shape and semi matched the beautiful ceiling medallion, so we decided it was last on the list to redecorate.

Thankfully the only remnants of the wall paper can now  be found in the closet. It seemed appropriate to pay homage to the past  for all to remember:)

Orleans before-

I love the wall color which is a rich golden taupe color. It blends perfectly with the original herringbone wood floors. We also added a beautiful wall sconce.

Found the perfect art work for the wall. This is a local artist’s oil painting of poppies.

Byron purchased this photograph many years before we came to the Cape. We had it rematted and the color tones could not have been more perfect for the Orlean’s room. It always amazes me when one piece of art can tie the whole room together.

We added  a stunning  antique dresser that offers great storage for our guests.

Next year we will be adding a king bed to this room as well. Already have a beautiful bed from Lexington in mind.

Harwich- before

We did our first round of redecorating in this room last winter, and I was just so pleased with the results. The blue grey walls compliment the floral window treatments perfectly and the antique brass bed it fitting of the Freeman’s Victorian heritage. This year we added a fluffy duvet and comforter at the foot of the bed and remodeled the bathroom with a deluxe rain forest shower with a pebble floor.

We are always thinking of storage opportunity for our guest’s and these modern metal shelves grace the new bathroom wall.

The new bath is still waiting on the shower glass doors, and will soon be ready for guests in April. We are so thrilled with the tile work- Thanks Antonio

This is our third bath remodel where we take everything down to the bare studs. We have learned so much, and are now using a local tile design studio to help us with the details. The vanity is complete with marble and additional basket storage underneath.

Dennis- added a colorful duvet and have a beautiful arm chair on order –

Brewster- added a colorful duvet that was a perfect match to the artwork in the room. Brewster also has a comfortable  European recliner and ottoman from Ekornes.

Saving the best for last- we did a total makeover of our Barnstable room. Still waiting on the king headboard from Pottery Barn but the rest of the room is complete. We are paying extra special attention to the sitting areas in each of our rooms with plenty of good reading lights. I found matching country linen French chairs that are a reproduction of an antique French bergere. They not only look beautiful but are very comfortable. We also added track lighting and unique sconces from Restoration Hardware that replicates an original that once illuminated a French architect’s studio in the 1940s.

Just have to love Restoration Hardware-

Envision a dramatic wooden headboard, patterned after a mantel in a 1920s American home. Picture shown is from Pottery Barn.

Lastly we added some luxurious linen including a French market needlepoint quilt, woven silk bed skirt and a soft comforter at the end of the bed.

This room has additional seating with a settee and chair with salmon accents.

 

I am so excited with what we have accomplished this winter. The Captain Freeman is such a stunning building and it is only fitting that the decor match the grandness of the era in which it was built.

In closing, thought it would be nice to include a summer picture. After all, we all need to think of warmed days coming……
