Autumn in Brewster, Cape Cod | Captain Freeman Inn

I know this is very silly but give me a couple cooler days in August and all my mind can think about is mums, pumpkins, cranberries and apple picking. I adore all things fall!

We have been “Happily Full” all summer long and very thankful that we upgraded our air conditioning at the inn as it’s been a hot and humid summer. Actually, I think the weather has been perfect for our guests as most spent the days at the beach, late afternoons at our pool and then had a restful nights sleep with our wonderful new air-conditioning that is so quiet and cool.

I am quite a “nester” and as soon as fall hits, my mind is organizing fall cleaning, baking with apple and cranberries and new knitting projects. I know it drives Byron crazy:)

And with all things FALL also comes some wonderful festivals and fall activities that Byron and I enjoy.

4. Truro Treasures Weekend- September 21st and 23rd

This year’s theme, celebrating the 26th anniversary of Truro Treasures, is “Shipwrecks of Cape Cod”.

About Truro Treasures Weekend-

Truro Treasures began in 1992 when several community members, most notably Betty Groom and Boo Houstoun, envisioned a fall weekend for children and adults to raise money to help save the Highland Lighthouse, and to promote community pride and interest in Truro. As a result, a non-profit organization,Truro Treasures, was created to sponsor the event. Since then, Truro Treasures has evolved and expanded into an annual fall weekend event that is crammed full of activities. The Mission of Truro Treasures is to sponsor a weekend of fun for the entire town of Truro that builds community spirit. The event includes plenty of free happening including a silent art auction, arts and crafts fair, flea market, grape stomp, car show, 5k run/walk and a  golf tournament. A wonderful example of true old fashion community!

If you are a craft beer lover this festival is not to be missed!

6. Yarmouth Seaside Festival– October 6th- 8th

7. Wellfleet Oyster Festival– October 13th & 14th

Check out a previous blog for details on this wonderful festival that fills up our inn every year.

Our favorite fall Cape Cod activities-

Nickerson State Park

1. Hike in Nickerson State Park

We adore this park which is just a few miles from the inn. The lakes are pristine and the forest especially beautiful in the fall.

Sunset from our beach

2. Watch a Cape Cod Sunset

Nothing like it!

Kayaking on Nauset Marsh

3. Go kayaking with Jonathan from Cape Kayaking

We had a tremendous afternoon kayaking with Jonathan on Nauset Marsh. The fall is perfect time to kayak as the water are still warm. Check out a previous blog for details.

4. Visit the islands

We had a ball during our short getaway to Martha’s Vineyard. This fall we are planning a day trip to Nantucket where we want to bike and visit the Whale Museum.

5. Go Whale watching

Surprisingly, the whales stay on Cape Cod way into October. September is a perfect time to witness these magnificent creatures up close.

6. Take a bike ride on the Cape Cod Rail Trail

Fall is the perfect time to ride the bike path- miles and miles of pristine trails.

7. Learn about Cranberries and how they are harvested

We love to walk around the bogs and if you are lucky you can witness the harvesting. Many of the bogs give tours so you can see the farm and equipment up close.
