January brings quieter times for these innkeepers, and we always look forward to this time of the year when we can take nice long walks on the beach and catch up on our reading. My happy place is in our kitchen and my mind is already thinking about testing some new ideas for our breakfasts and our upcoming “Dine Inn” dinners.
Our New Year’s celebration was a huge success, and we so enjoyed visiting with all of our guests. With the weather being so cold, the Beef Bourguignon was perfect comfort food for New Year’s Eve and the Croissants and Gravlax made for a perfect Brunch on New Year’s Day.

Like all good parties- everyone gathered in the kitchen for wine tasting with cheese and antipasto .

The main course included Honey Baked Ham, Beef Bourguignon with buttered noodles, roasted vegetables, chutney and popovers.

Since we love our desserts- everyone enjoyed their choice of lemon meringue, pecan or apple pie and cheesecake! Such a fun evening.
We all slept in a little the next day and had a wonderful brunch. It was so well received that we are contemplating including the same menu every Sunday during the summer months.

Our menu included fresh baked croissants with homemade apricot and raspberry jams, Gravlax made at inn with dill creme fraiche, Honey Baked Ham and eggs to order, pumpernickel, banana bread and fresh pineapple and blueberries and of course our specialty -chocolate covered strawberries and mimosas. A feast for breakfast and a wonderful way to welcome in the New Year.

Gathering with our guests to enjoy good food was so special for Byron and me. We are already looking forward to the same experience for our Dine Inn Packages in the upcoming months.
Our Dine Inn events include a wonderful meal Saturday night on select weekends- January 13th, February 10th & February 24th and can include a Friday/Saturday stay or a Saturday/Sunday stay. The tasty menu includes:
Bruschetta with Truffle Oil and Shaved Parmigiano Reggiano
Antipasto Meats and Cheeses
Dinner Buffet (Served around 7pm)
Filet of Beef with Basil Parmesan Sauce
Crispy Mustard- Roasted Chicken
Roasted Vegetables
Vegetable Cheese Tart
Donna’s Favorite Salad with Feta Cheese and Pine Nuts
Homemade Southern Butter Rolls
Donna’s Homemade Pies (to definitely include Pecan for Byron)
At the Captain Freeman Inn, we are always here to make your quiet season stay on Cape Cod extra special. Breakwater Beach is just a short stroll from the inn and a perfect winter activity to stroll leisurely on our Cape Cod bay beach.
