8 things to do for a day trip to Provincetown | Captain Freeman Inn

Provincetown is  a popular mecca in the summer time and is an easy day trip from the Captain Freeman Inn. Listed below are some of our favorite things to do while visiting Provincetown in the summer:

1. Whale watching with the Cape Cod Dolphin fleet is by far the most popular destination for our summer visitors. There is something  magical and “bucket list” worthy of seeing a whale breach close to your boat. We like to recommend the  Cape Cod Whale Watching tour that departs from Provincetown and goes out to the Stellwagen Bank, where all different forms of life congregate and whales go to feed during the warmer months. You will have the opportunity to see many different types of whales, including Finback, Sei, Minke, Right, Pilot and the Humpback. We have a popular package, Frolicking with the Whales, which includes tickets for two on the whale watching fleet,  a care package of cookies, fruit, sunscreen,  Freeman Caps and a Cape Cod lunch at the Lobster Pot.
2. Speaking of lunch- enjoy a fresh lobster overlooking the beautiful Provincetown Harbor at the acclaimed Lobster Pot.

   

3. Grab a beach chair from the Captain Freeman, stop and get a lobster roll at Sir Crickets in Orleans and head for Race Point Beach. Bring the inn’s binoculars and sometimes you can see breaching whales.

   

4. Park at the Pilgrim Monument, tour the museum and climb to the top of the monument where you will see breathtaking views of Cape Cod bay.

   

5. Take part in Art’s Dune Tours and learn the fascinating history of the dune shacks and all of the natural surrounding beauty of the backside dunes.
6. Visit Race Point Light House which was built in 1876, and open year round. Other buildings are still standing on the site including the keeper’s house, which is available for overnight stays from the spring to the fall every year. From Race Point Beach, the lighthouse is a 45 minute walk.
7. Walk Commercial Street and visit the many art galleries and unique shops.
8. Rent a bike and ride the eight miles of hilly paved trails around ponds, cranberry bogs and sand dunes. Make sure to ride your bikes around Herring Cove Beach and Racepoint….it’s a glorious ride!
