Snow day on Cape Cod! Harrison and I are snuggling in bed writing this blog…what could be better in life:)
I always love a rainy or snowy day as it brings out all of my nesting instincts. Winter Storm Stella slowed all outside activity to a crawl and drew me into the kitchen as we are testing and planning our summer menus. We have two guests from Colorado who decided to brave all of the harsh weather forecast and come for their 4 night stay at the Captain Freeman. They have been out and about each day exploring their favorite beaches and shopping spots. Yesterday, they came home to enjoy my all time favorite winter activity……
#1 making homemade apple pie and enjoying it with guests. Recipe on making this pie to follow.
Winter time is the perfect opportunity to watch TV. While I try to keep my TV viewing to a minimum who can help binge watching on Netflix during storms .
my next two favorite winter activities…..
#2 watching Grace and Frankie, starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Martin Sheen on Netflix. The story line had me in hysterics and laughing so hard that Byron came to see what was the matter. While Grace and Frankie are not friends in the beginning of the story they form a bond when their husbands leave them for each other. I am guessing that this series would appeal more to my piers 50+ 🙂 🙂 It’s adult humor that only 50+ can totally appreciate.
#3 watching Netflix’s sleek period drama The Crown It’s a story into the private life of Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy), but many fans may be wondering how much of the glamorous series is based on real life. While some elements — like the Duke and Duchess of Windsor’s frosty relationship with the royal family and Princess Margaret’s romance with the dashing Pete Townsend — are true, several key elements of the series are either totally made up or exaggerated for dramatic effect. I love history and what better way to spend an afternoon then watching a beautifully produced love story.
I love shopping and decorating. We have made many changes to the inn over the past few months and today I had fun shopping on Etsy to complete a few design touches including some luxurious linen duvets, linen bath and hand towels and some beautiful dried flowers bouquets to place around the inn.
#4 retail therapy for Donna and the inn:) I fell in love with this petite moss covered clay pot embellished with dried roses layered on a bed of hydrangea .
I love making special dinners for Byron! I was tickled when our daughter April said she was making Beef Bourguignon for her snow day evening meal. We laughed together as we both wished we lived closer so that we could have her beef and our apple pie for dinner.
#5 winter storm favorite activity is making a special dinner for your honey and enjoying that meal over candlelight and a good bottle of wine.
#6 I have been having fun with my new book reviews that I post once a month on this blog. My goal is to read 4 or more books each month. Will be fun to see if I can keep up this goal during the summer months. Right now I am reading Breakfast with Buddha, a really enjoyable read!
I thought my last winter storm activity should involve my sweetie Byron. So the question is …….is Byron’s favorite winter storm activity work or play?
#7 It always seems practical on days like today to catch up with taxes or marketing. Thankfully Byron has been diligent with both for our Cape Cod bed and Breakfast.
Everyone stay warm and safe and enjoy your quiet time indoors- hopefully with heat and electricity. We have a new generator just in case anyone needs a safe haven.
