Always looking for new inspiration for our blogs and how perfect that while serving breakfast to one of my favorite guests staying at the Captain Freeman, learned of a perfect topic, one that coincides with many of the New Year’s Resolutions that are out there.
The picture shown above is Lou coming back from a morning run. Lou and his wife Laura have stayed with us many times, and I had a vague memory of seeing Lou leaving early several morning while I was preparing breakfast- little did I know the reason.
Lou has been running for many years and has an impressive background of being the Head Coach for the Woman’s Track and Cross Country at Cornell University. He is retired now but has the discipline to continue his personal fitness program- Today was Day 2 of running every single morning for the past 14 years. His morning run usually includes a 4-5 mile trek and while staying on the Cape can include beautiful beach vistas.
After he told me that piece of information, and I had a moment to absorb the time frame, I asked- “you must be pretty healthy to sustain that regime of every day for so many years”. His wife just smiled and said “oh, if you only knew”. I then learned that Lou has run every day which includes a time that he endured a dislocated shoulder and toe and a bad plantar fascitis…..now that is discipline!
So for all the would be hopeful runners out there I asked the question of what sneakers do you like- Lou had to spell the name as I had never heard of Asics Sportswear. He likes that brand as it holds up well and in Lou’s words “they help hold me up”.
Thanks Lou for sharing your story.
Wishing everyone a joyful, healthy and prosperous New Year. In year’s past I have made New Year’s resolutions that never seemed to last and mostly included loosing weight. This year I just feel blessed to have a wonderful family that is healthy and happy and wishing – Peace on earth and goodwill to men!
