The question we get asked over and over is “is the inn open year-round?” Yes! The answer is yes, 12 months a year. The Captain Freeman Inn is open year-round.
Cape Cod attracts visitors from all over the world in the warm months. But there are a whole lot of people who prefer to enjoy the beauty of the Cape when it’s cooler and quieter. November through April are the months when the crowds are light, making way for a more peaceful, but just as wonderful, Cape Cod getaway.
Beaches
Spending time at the beach is one of the best things to do in the off season. Grab your hat and coat, a Captain Freeman Inn signature beach chair, let us pack you a hot beverage and you’re off! The waves are usually more active at this time of year which is fun to watch and the best part? Those waves deposit lots of shells on the shore. We always find the best shells at this time of year!
Museums
Cape Cod has so many wonderful museums to explore, a collection called the Cape Cod Museum Trail. The Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis immerses guests in works of art that celebrate the artistic culture of life on the Cape. The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is located just 5 minutes from the inn and our favorite part? Behind the museum, you’ll be led to a two-plank-wide boardwalk which will take you over the salt marsh, past an impressive osprey nest and to Wing Island, which boasts sweeping views of the ocean! Up for a drive? Head to the quaint town of Sandwich, home to the Heritage Museums and Gardens. With 100 acres, there are extensive beautifully designed gardens and water features to see outside and galleries full of exhibits inside. In December, the museum’s Gardens Aglow holiday light exhibit is breathtaking!
Shopping
Some of the best shopping is on Cape Cod. Specialty stores and galleries are everywhere and hand-crafted pottery, unique jewelry, antiques, chocolates and confections, local artwork, clothing and home décor can be found in endless shops, many of which remain open year-round. Popular Cape Cod shopping spots are Main Street in Chatham and Main Street in Falmouth. There are also many stores to explore in downtown Orleans and Hyannis as well as along the scenic Route 6A. But, some of the best local treasures can be found at the many general stores found along the Cape. We are so lucky to have the historic Brewster Store right next to The Captain Freeman Inn! In Harwich, Murphy’s General Store is a great stop and La Belle’s General Store in Dennis Port, Cuffy’s General Store in West Dennis and the 1856 Country Store in Centerville are all packed with specialty items.
Tastings
One of the best ways to spend an afternoon is by enjoying a wine, beer or spirit tasting. At Truro Vineyards, gather around your personal fire pit, sip a selection of wines and spirits and snack on lobster rolls and hummus (they serve the best hummus on the planet!). Hog Island Brewery in Orleans is beer brewed by locals and enjoyed by everyone! Enjoy a tour before your tasting! Naukabout Brewery and Taproom in Mashpee is another definite on your beverage tour!
The Captain Freeman Inn is open year-round! With 10 beautifully designed guest rooms, a three course farm to table breakfast each morning, complimentary sweets and beverages each afternoon, signature bathrobes and slippers and luxurious bath and body products, you’ll be pampered from the moment you arrive.
