About Us
About Us
Donna and Byron moved to Cape Cod in 2003 when they decided to make a broad leap in life to become innkeepers. They purchased Brewster by the Sea where they totally remodeled many parts of the inn as well as adding a wonderful spa. In 2010, the Captain Freeman Inn became available, and it seemed like a natural to add a second inn to the mix since that property had been their dream inn when they were looking years before. They closed in January 2011 and have been busy over the past few years updating and redecorating the entire inn.
Byron was born and raised in the mountains of Wyoming (you'll occasionally see a really spiffy pair of cowboy boots and belt buckle) where he evolved a true love for the outdoors and nature. A career as a geophysicist allowed him to travel the world. Donna was born in the Berkshires and spent many years catering in that area. Later travels brought her to Houston where she met Byron, and they raised their family. Donna worked for several large furniture stores as a buyer and this experience has been invaluable in decorating the inns.
The couple has an adorable Labradoodle named Harrison Massasoit. He lives in the owner’s quarters at Brewster by the Sea but spends time at both properties visiting with guests. He is incredibly well behaved and hypoallergenic. You can see more of him at our flickr account and he also has his own facebook page.
About our staff
Since adding a second property several new positions were created to run both inns smoothly. We now have a wonderful staff who truly care about the hospitality and fine details that we are known for.
Lisa has been working as our Head Breakfast Chef, Innkeeper and Housekeeper at the Captain Freeman Inn since it was purchased back in January 2011 (she had previously been doing Housekeeping over at our sister property, Brewster By The Sea). A native Cape Codder, Lisa lives with her boyfriend Bryan at Sweetwater Forest. Together they have three dogs, and Lisa also owns a horse that she rescued from the racetracks. She is an absolute genius in the kitchen, and especially loves making and decorating beautiful cakes for all of our guests’ special occasions. Lisa is currently attending college here on Cape Cod with dreams of being a vet one day.
Nathan, the innkeeper and son, is living in the Chatham room. Look for his smiling face all over the inn. He does just about everything you can imagine and has been invaluable through the renovations. He is currently attending UMass Dartmouth with a double major in Biology and economics. Rumors of wanting to be a doctor have been heard. (Always nice to watch our children grow up and become adults!.) His sense of humor is appreciated by coworkers and guests alike, and his sharp intelligence has led to many interesting conversations in our guest lounge.
Denise lives on the property and is the lead housekeeper at Brewster by the Sea. She keeps all of the housekeeping staff on their toes, and occasionally even cooks for them. Always up for a joke, her positive energy is positively contagious. She has an old fashion work ethic that has been invaluable to our operation. Denise is with us for most of the year but travels back to Jamaica during our quiet time to visit family.
Corinne is our main housekeeper at the Captain Freeman. While being very quiet at first we have grown to appreciate her “wicked “ sense of humor. Her dedication, integrity and hard work is very much appreciated and such an important part of our business. Originally from Jamaica, she moved to the United States in 2009 to be close to her sister, niece and nephews. An Aunt Extraordinaire, Corrine loves to spend time at home with her family in Orleans playing games, going to the beach, and watching Disney movies.
Mitzi joined us this past summer. She always comes to work with a smile on her face and has been such a caring team player. She has been invaluable over the summer as she divides her time helping the housekeeping staff at both inns. Mitzi also has a second job as a nursing assistant at a nursing home on the Cape.
Antonio is our resident Handyman, and he can honestly do just about anything! Painting, landscaping, tiling, plumbing, electrical wiring, furniture repairing – you name it, Antonio does it! Born in Colombia, he has been living in the United States for the past 20 years and working hard to put his children through school and, he hopes, to eventually move his entire family here to be with him. His work ethic is unparalleled, and the fact that he does it all with a huge grin lighting up his face makes us all respect him even more.
We are so appreciative of our staff and consider them to be our family.
