Completed in 1866 by Captain William Freeman, The Captain Freeman Inn remains just as he intended: an elegant home designed for relaxing in luxury. Guests at our Cape Cod bed and breakfast “rock” summer days away on the front porch, where hanging baskets brim with flowers. Newspapers are enjoyed over freshly-brewed coffee and homemade, three-course breakfasts. Afternoons include an après-beach glass of lemonade, evenings a glass of port or sherry. Everything about a stay at our inn is devised to help make one realize what the ‘good life’ was…and continues to be.
Donna and Byron, the owners and innkeepers of The Captain Freeman Inn, have carefully renovated the inn since purchasing it in 2011. The exquisite craftsmanship throughout the inn has been restored to its original beauty. The hand-pulled plaster moldings and ceiling medallions, and chevron-patterned hardwood floors are as flawless now as they were the day that Captain Freeman moved into his new home.
On the first floor are the winter dining room, a grand parlor, a tearoom, and guest pantry, as well as one of the inn’s 11 guestrooms, and the country kitchen where Donna and Byron prepare breakfast each morning.
With a love of hospitality, good food and Cape Cod, purchasing the inn was a dream realized for Donna and Byron. When they found the property, it had been vacant for several years and they couldn’t resist the opportunity to restore the sea captain’s home to its original condition and then welcome guests from around the world.
The move to Cape Cod, and inn-keeping, was a big change for Donna and Byron. With their three wonderful children grown and thriving on their own, they left behind careers in Houston – Byron as a geologist, Donna a furniture buyer – and pooled their professional experience to remodel and decorate this magnificent home.
They and their lovable labradoodle, Harrison, are exhaling on Cape Cod and loving every minute of it!
